THE GREAT WALL – THE MELCHERS WALL
GENESIS
In the beginning was a windswept, weather-beaten, white wall – and the question: how can we decorate this rear facade of the Melchers building on Schlachte in Bremen, which faces the company car park? And how can we do it so that everyone benefits: the staff of Melchers GmbH & Co. KG as well as local residents and walkers? It quickly became clear that facade art is ideal for such a surface – preferably with a connection to the traditional company from Bremen.
But how could the history and spirit of our company be depicted? What is important to us and what makes Melchers stand out? To find creative answers to these questions, we started by compiling a basic concept together with PR agency DIALOG PR and the graffiti and urban art experts from LuckyWalls between 2019 and 2021 – with an interruption as a result of the pandemic. Various options were developed and discussed here. The specific design template was then created by LuckyWalls and DIALOG PR between 2021 and 2022, as part of a multi-part creative workshop together with Melchers staff from various departments – the Melchers creative team.

REALISATION OF THE MELCHERS WALL
The silhouette design “In the River of Time” was chosen, representing the eventful history and cosmopolitan nature of the company, which has its head office by the River Weser. Great strides were now made towards implementation: at the start of September 2022 the facade was surrounded by scaffolding and the artists set to work. The huge mural emerged within only four weeks – despite several weather-related disruptions – and was officially inaugurated on 16.11.2022.
